Advantages of Knowing CPR

Aug 27, 2020

Every year, over 350,000 cardiac arrests happen outside of a hospital setting. Considering they can do serious damage within a short amount of time, or can even be fatal - this is an alarmingly high number. While you can’t stop cardiac arrests from happening, through the use of cardiopulmonary resuscitation you can certainly be proactive and help reduce the damage.

CPR is an emergency life-saving procedure done when an individual’s breathing or heartbeat suddenly stops. Brain damage could be caused within minutes of cardiac arrest, so the advantages of knowing and performing CPR to save a life are endless.

CPR combines rescue breathing, which provides oxygen for the lungs of the patient, and chest compressions that keep the oxygen-rich blood flowing until the heartbeat and breathing are normally restored. CPR has proven to increase the survival rate for a patient when given properly and immediately.

CPR and AED refer to techniques that are provided to victims of a heart attack. An AED is a device used to get the heart pumping normally again. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automated external defibrillator (AED) training are two different life-saving techniques, that when used together, are the most effective way of saving a victim of sudden cardiac arrest. AEDs are installed in many public places including gyms, schools, major department stores, shopping centers, airports, grocery stores, and even some public transit vehicles.
